SkateNS is hosting this year’s Atlantic Championships at the RBC Centre in Dartmouth, NS.
We are in need of several volunteers to help support this event as we welcome skaters from all over the Atlantic Provinces.
There are several opportunities available! Please take a look at the list of options. If there is something that you are interested in please let us know!
The days and times of the competition are:
- Friday April 12, 12:00 PM – 8:45 PM
- Saturday April 13, 8:30 AM – 8:55 PM
- Sunday April 14, 8:00 AM – 5:15 PM
These will be three full days and we will need assistance before, during and after the event. You are not be expected to be available the entire day, just let us know what you might be interested in helping out with and what days and times you are available.
Below is just an example of what we will need help with!
Volunteer Coordinator – Checks in volunteers and provides direction.
Registration – Register skaters, officials, coaches upon arrival. Notify a tech rep if a skater hasn’t checked in 30 minutes before an event.
Runners – Runners assist throughout the competition as required, an important job is running the results from events to the officials room. We will need several runners over the three days. This is a great position for a young mature skater.
Ice Captains – Ice Captains are stationed in or near the dressing rooms. They check skaters names upon arrival, inform them if the event is running on time and are responsible for the flow of skaters coming on and off the ice. Again, we will need several of these over the course of the weekend. This is a great position for a young mature skater.
Music and Announcing – We will need an announcer and a music operator for each category. Several volunteers are needed for these positions.
Awards – Assist with announcing and handing out of awards and congratulating skaters. Take podium pictures and send to the social media contact for posting.
Hospitality – Provide food for officials and coaches during the event. Here are some examples of what has been provided in the past: chilli, soup, muffins, cookies, fruit, rice, meatballs, macaroni and cheese. We also have some dietary restrictions and can let a volunteer know what is needed. All donated food items must not compete with Subway menu options.
Setup and Tear Down – We’ll have a number of tables and decorations that will need to be setup before and removed after the competition.
