Skaters from Nova Scotia are permitted to enter the following events:

  • Pre Juvenile singles, pairs & dance
  • Juvenile singles, pairs & dance
  • Pre Novice singles, pairs & dance
  • Novice singles pairs & dance
  • Junior singles, pairs & dance
  • Senior singles, pairs & dance

Skaters that are registered for Pre Juvenile and Juvenile are also permitted to register for STAR 7 or 9 as well.

STAR Seminar – September 14th and 15th

We are very pleased to have Monica Lockie, the  Skating Development Director from Skate Canada, coming to Nova Scotia September 14th & 15th to review the STAR 1 – 5 program and educate us on the new STAR 6 to Gold that is implemented as of September 1st 2019.

Saturday’s STAR 1 -5 will be for Coaches and Club Executives and Sunday for Coaches and Officials.

A schedule is provided below to assist all clubs in the scheduling of their ice time for that weekend. Hopefully, this will enable coaches and  club executives to attend these very important 2 days of learning.

Please inform Jill Knowles (skatecanadans@sportnovascotia.ca) by September 6th., who will be attending from your club ( Executive Members, Coaches and Interested Persons ) and which day(s) they will be in attendance.

Officials will be contacted separately.

10:00 – 12:00  Classroom time: STAR 1-5 check in, programing, training vs testing, yearly planning

3:00 – 4:00 pm – Classroom Assessing  – Continuum of Development

Riverview Synchro Tryouts

Riverview Eclipse Synchro is excited to be holding tryouts for two teams that will go to NFLD for Regionals this coming season. We are inviting skaters (suggested minimum Star 2) to come to the tryouts on Wednesday, Aug. 14 from 6:00pm-7:30pm and Thursday, Aug 15 from 5:20pm-6:50pm (both days) at the Acadia Arena in Wolfville NS. There is a $50 fee per skater to attend (fee is for both days). The RSVP deadline is Friday, Aug. 2. If you have any questions or concerns please contact our synchro coordinator Gina Benedict ateclipsesynchroskate@gmail.com. Please review and complete the attached registration form. Completed forms can be scanned to eclipsesynchroskate@gmail.com to RSVP. Payment can be sent by e-transfer toriverviewskatingclubtreasurer@gmail.com or paid in cash upon check-in on day 1 of tryouts. Note – a Beginner team will be formed at the start of the regular skating season therefore Beginner Team skaters are not required to attend these tryouts.

Mariposa East is hosting the Doug Leigh Seminar again this summer. August 21st & 22nd for the seminar and 23rd for lesson time.

Skate Canada Nova Scotia is seeking new people and new skills to add to the Marketing and Publicity Committee. We need parents, skaters, officials and coaches from across the province. Join us to help modernize communication with our membership.

Your commitment: 4 to 6 meetings a year and about 5 hours work a month.

2019-2020 Synchro Requirement Information

 

Pre-Juvenile – Adult 2019-20 Synchronized Skating Domestic Requirements

Below are the Beginner 1 to Elementary, and at STAR 1 – 3 competitions a synchro element event will be held for

BEGINNER I  – teams may consist of 4 to 8 skaters (no music or program required, no age restrictions,  elements will be skated one at a time)

                        Linear element (block)

                        Linear element (line)

                        Intersection element

                        Rotating element (circle or wheel)

 

Assessed to Standard Synchronized Skating

Assessment criteria and minimum element considerations are detailed in the Synchro Assessed to Standard Guide

 

Beginner I

Teams consist of eight to16 skaters

Age: At least 75% of the skaters must not have reached the age of 12 before July 1 preceding the competition

The team will perform a free skating program to music a maximum of two minutes ten seconds in length

A well-balanced Beginner I SYS program contains:

Linear element (block)

Linear element (line)

Intersection element

Rotating element (choice of circle or wheel)

 

Beginner II

Teams consist of eight to16 skaters

Age: Skaters must not have reached the age of 12 before July 1 preceding the competition and at least 75% of the skaters must not have reached the age of 10 before July 1 preceding the competition

The team shall perform a free skating program to music a maximum of two minutes forty seconds in length

A well-balanced Beginner II SYS program contains:

Pivoting element (block)

Linear element (line)

Intersection element

Rotating element (wheel)

Rotating element (circle)

 

Elementary

Teams consist of eight to16 skaters

Age: Skaters must not have reached the age of 15 before July 1 preceding the competition

CanSkate/CanPower Coach Courses Offered

CanSkate Coach Information

PEI will be hosting the CanSkate Course in August on the traditional weekend August 3rd to 5th

Deadline for registration is July 14th.

Pre -Requisites:

  • Skate Canada member
  • 16 years of age
  • Passed one complete STAR 5 Assessment or Junior Bronze Test

 

Nova Scotia will be hosting a CanPower Course in Amherst October 5th & 6th

Registration will take place in August

Pre- Requisites:

  • Skate Canada member
  • 16 years of age
  • CanSkate or higher Skate Canada
  • Community Sport Coach Hockey
  • Community Sport Coach Ringette
  • Must wear hockey skates

 

Summer Monitoring Session – July 19th

“MONITORING OPPORTUNITY”

 Where: St Margaret’s Centre Tantallon

When: Friday July 19th  2018 approx 1:00 to 5:00

Cost: $45.00

Skate Canada Nova Scotia is pleased to offer a monitoring opportunity for skaters STAR 6 and above and Pre Juvenile and above as we prepare for the upcoming season. 

Officials will be reviewing programs and consulting with skaters and coaches on the strengths and work to be done on the program, feedback will be given. 

One program per skater will be monitored and only COMPLETED programs will be monitored. 

Coach attendance is mandatory with all skaters and applications will be accepted on a first come first served basis.
