Announcing the 2024 Jan Clattenburg Merit and Francis Glenwright Memorial Award Winners

Jan Clattenburg Merit Award

Congratulations to Jaxin Wilson on receiving the Jan Clattenburg Merit Award for his Short Program performance at the 2024 Robert McCall Memorial in the Novice Mens Category.

The Jan Clattenburg Merit Award is presented to the skater(s) who have exemplified the most deserving performance during this year’s Sectional Competition.

Jan Clattenburg started her skating career in Scotland, where she became the Scottish National Champion. She never lost her passion and dedication to skating. Upon her arrival in Canada she served as an executive member for clubs from coast to coast, always offering encouraging words to volunteers and skaters. As a judge/evaluator, Jan was able to share her wealth of knowledge with everyone from club to national level. Before losing her courageous battle with cancer in 2012, Jan saw her dream of a new home for the Queens County Blades realized in Queens Place. This award has been named after a woman who influenced everyone around her with her love for skating and her desire to have every skater be the best that they could be.

Frances Glenwright Memorial Award

Congratulations to Violet Singh and Sean Mabe on receiving the Frances Glenwright Memorial Award for their Free Skate performance at the 2024 Robert McCall Memorial in the Novice Pairs Category.

This trophy which was presented by the Nova Scotia Section of the Canadian Figure Skating Association Executive in 1972 at the 1973 Nova Scotia Sectional Championships. The Frances Glenwright Memorial Trophy is to be awarded annually to the skater(s), (pairs or dance) whose free program in the Nova Scotia Sectional Championships is considered to interpret the music, with the greatest artistry.

Frances Glenwright was an endless worker in every phase of figure skating. She was tragically taken from us in a car accident while driving home from summer skating. A member of the Truro Figure Skating Club Executive from 1966 to 1972, she was the secretary of the Nova Scotia Section Executive, a judge and above all else, each and every skater’s best friend. Everyone loved her; it is our hope that this trophy will be cherished with great affection — as is the memory of this truly wonderful lady
