Female Athlete OF the Year

Jillian MacCuspie

Jillian has taken her skating to a senior level, a feat that has not been accomplished b y a female in Nova Scotia for over ten years. At the Canadian Championships in January, Jillian placed 18th.

Male athlete OF the Year

John Mattatall

John has the unique challenge of competing as both a senior man and a junior pair at the national championships. At these championships, he placed second in the junior pair division and 22nd in the senior men’s division. He followed these successes with a 10th place finish at the junior world championships in the junior pairs division.

Teams OF the Year

Stephanie Hill & Shawn Mury

Stephanie and Shawn began skating together as a juvenile pair 18-months ago and have already reached a level of national performance. At the sectional championships in Dartmouth, the team places first in juvenile pairs and went onto place seventh at the junior national figure skating championships in Ottawa.

Official OF the Year

Mark Scales

In 2003-04, Mark was a judge and technical representative at competition across the province. He made his biggest mark on the sport in the aftermath of “white Juan”, rearranging schedules, skaters and judges for the junior provincial championships. Despite not knowing minute-to-minute who would be able to attend, the event was a huge success.

Coach OF the Year

Marie Bowness

This year Marie used her talent to coordinate Dreams on Ice, a fundraiser for skaters travelling outside of Nova Scotia for competition. Marie was selected by the International Skating union to be p[art of the testing group for the new Code of Points judging system. During this, Marie managed to coach a novice dance team to the national championships.
