Volunteer OF the Year

Amy MacLean

Amy MacLean has made huge changes at the Truro Figure Skating Club. A dedicated volunteer, she took on the President position at the club and worked to revitalize falling membership numbers. The club now skates out of three arenas and has been rebuilt to the point they have a waiting list for programs. Her passion as a volunteer has led the club back to great status in Truro.

Official OF the Year

Gregor MacLean

Official Gregor MacLean has refereed both provincially and nationally and has immense technical skill. Years of course, exams and trial judging keep him up-to-date and he shows an exceptional care for the sport. As a technical controller, referee, and judge, he has worked at all levels from club to nationals this year. He puts in time and preparation and educated other officials. He is the Atlantic Region Representation for the Skate Canada National Board and gives it all for the sport.

Coach OF the Year

Heather Surette

Heather Surette has been coaching for 40 years. At a national level, her students include Pre-Novice Men’s Liam Connolly and Novice Men’s Jonathon Moravec. Both Skaters have exceeded expectations at high technical levels, and heather has been there since the start. She adapts learning styles for her students. The support and expertise from their coach helped lead the two men to competing at National Competitions.

Team OF the Year

Cassidy Trudeau & Luc Dupuis

Figure Skating pair Cassidy Trudeau and Luc Dupuis placed sixth in the Skate Canada Pre Novice Challenge. They’re a new pairing who have made great progress together, especially given Trudeau never skated pairs before Dupuis. Eight months later, they were on the pre-novice stage with confidence and their journey continues to inspire.

Junior Male athlete OF the Year

Connell Meagher

Connell Meagher impressed with 11th at the Pre Novice Challenge, the highest level of competition for his level in Canada. This was his first challenge competition, making his rookie event even more impressive. He has taken to a new level this season. Connell also has a new pair partner and they have worked to acquire new skills together.

Junior Female athlete OF the Year

Anya Roussakova

Anya Roussakova recently came 13th at the Novice Nationals, and sixth at the Novice Challenge. A hard worker dedicated to the sport, she is trying tp achibe the technical ability of triple jumps. Anya spends countless hours in Quebec and Nova Scotia training to reach her goals, and her sixth-place finish shows she is an elite contender.
